If so, is the bag of fluid that contains the baby covered it thick snotty material all over? I am curious when they scrap your membranes, do they just take alot of that snotty stuff away from one point to make it so when the baby is putting pressure there it will cause a hole or a rip to make your water pop? Thanks!

yes your membranes and water bag are the same. when a dr. strips the membrane it means that the his separating the bag of water from the cerviv. i have had this done twice the first time i was dilated to 4 the second time i was at a 3. This can be a little uncomfy but if you just relax then it will be fine. by the way I went into labor 3 days after having this done the first time and 1 day after the second.

Yes, the membranes are the same as your bag of water. When they strip your membranes, first you have to be dilated at least a little for them to get to the bag. All they do is manipulate the bag of water by putting their fingers between the cervix and the bag and rubbing around some. Sometimes just this manipulation can cause contractions to start or weaken the bag of water to cause it to break. Doesn't always work, but sometimes does.
