Being 'hung over' is feeling sick the day after drinking. Drinking alcohol (any alcohol) causes the body to loose water (you pee out more than you drink in) and this dehydration causes headaches and other physical ailments.
With this loss of water is also a loss of water soluble vitamins.
Alcohol is also hard on your stomach and will irritate the stomach lining making it uncomfortable (or impossible) to eat.
To prevent one (or at least reduce the discomfort) drink a lot of water before going to bed or even better alternate water with alcoholic drinks. Eating protein will help reduce the toxic effect of the alcohol and eating vitamin rich food (or I suppose a vitamin pill) will also help.

A hangover (veisalgia) describes the sum of unpleasant physiological effects following heavy consumption of drugs and liquor, particularly alcohol. The most commonly reported characteristics of a hangover include headache, nausea, sensitivity to light and noise, lethargy, depression and thirst.
Hypoglycemia, dehydration, Acetaldehyde intoxication, and vitamin B12 deficiency are all theorized causes of hangover symptoms. Hangovers usually last 1 to 4 hours, although some have been reported to last two or three days after alcohol was last consumed.
You feel like hell, basically.
