The first of everything.
ie
Relatonship
kiss
Day (work or school)
I think this even applies to objects, like bike/computer etc.
This isn't necessarily true for everything e.g. children.
Could this be linked to the second slightly different version of something not quite measuring up, (or feeling 'wrong') ?

Joy or happiness is something completely relative to what you have to begin with.
For example the relative difference between not having a bike, to getting your first bike, is a lot greater than simply getting a slightly better bike. In other words the second thing might even be better than the first one and still not perceived as the best experience. This can also apply to a relationship or kiss.

It's like anything else: The first time is great, the second time is just less, and so on. The thrill of having something new (i.e. relationship, but more so, a bike, computer, phone, etc...) is the greatest feeling, but as you use it more and more, it is less exciting than when we first got it and we get bored. I believe that everyone goes through the same thing to one degree or another. I get bored with electronics quickly & wait anxiously for new & better ones to come out. Then the same thing over again. Vicious circle it is.

The first is exciting---it's the first time you've experienced something so you have no expectations. The second and so on all have expectations that have to live up to..Also, you have that ideal in your mind of the first day. Can you remember your 105th day of high school? I'm sure you can remember the first though! The firsts stand out in our mind because there was so much emotion involved.

Everyone always remembers their first car, and whether it was thought of as the best or not, but the first. As far as cars, bikes and all, people who have to have everything new they see it as how they want everyone to see them.
they want people to see them as successful or whatever, because they're lacking in other areas, personality, or just are those that think they have the best of everything.

It's not a case of preferring the first ...its more being able to remember the first simply because it is the first even if it is no necessarily the best.

I think its the excitement of doing/seeing/trying something for the first time - how it will feel or be and letting your imagination run wild, but afterwards, when you've done it a few times, its not quite as exciting because you know what to expect.

its because stone cold said so. . .only joking
i think its because its the 1st then it will stay in your memory forever - like a mile stone
think about the 2nd time you went school or kissed anyone, not quite the same is it? im not saying that the 1st was the best, just that you'll never forget it

Not everyone wants to be the first. If you are first, you could be the one to tell the others what it was like. It makes you stand out.

I suppose because the first is usually the most vivid in someone's memory. To me, the first isn't the most important though... the best is :)
