1/2+1/(d-2) = d/16, Is this what you want?
Multiply each term by 16(d-2),
8(d-2) + 16 = d(d-2)
d^2-10d = d(d-10) = 0
d = 0, 10

1/2+1/d-2=d/16
1/d-d/16 = 2-1/2 = 3/2
Multiply by 16d, getting:
16 -d^2 = 24d
d^2 + 24d -16 = 0
d = [-24 +/- sqrt(640)]/(2*1)
d = -12 +/- 4sqrt(10)

how will you know if the answer's right?

1/d=d/16+1.5
1=d^2/16+1.5d
1/16 d^2+1.5d-1=0

quadratic.
you plug in the numbers.
-b+/-sqrt[(b^2-4ac)/2a)]
