This equation is really easy for me (since I am on the second level of calculus and am only a high school senior!):
2/w = x/5
1. cross-multiply.
xw = 10
2. solve for w.
w = 10/x
3. plug this into the original equation.
2/ (10/x) = x/5
4. solve.
2/1 * x/10 = x/5
2x/10 = x/5
x/5 = x/5
This tells you that the w=10 (since 2x/10 = 2/w) and x=1.
Hope this helps!

There is NO "solution" since you have ONE equation with TWO variables.
One can solve sets of equations ONLY if the number of variables equals, or is less, than the number of equations.

I apologize, but it cannot be solved, without knowing for information. You have two unknown variables in a single equation, and no way to determining the value of either. However, you can solve for either variable...
To solve for x...
2/w = x/5
(Multiple both sides by 5)
10/w = x
To solve for w...
2/w = x/5
(Multiple both sides by w)
2 = xw/5
(Multiple both sides by 5)
10 = xw
(Divide both sides by x)
10/x = w

well, by this equation we understand "w*x=10"
now here we don't have any idea since there are some other explanations of the two variables noticed in your problem state, for example if it says "w" is a right number and "x>6", you will find out that "x=10" and "w=1".
It may that the information about the variables are implicite in the problem, so i recommand you to read the problem state again carefully!

With a single equation containing two unknowns (w and x) you cannot find the solution to both.
However, if you cross-multiply,
You get: wx = 2X5 = 10
so you could say the above, or x = 10/w
or w = 10/x

2/w = x/5
w = 5/x * 2
w = 10/x
Answer: w = 10/x
Prove the equality of both sides of the original equation by plugging w with 10/x:
2/w = x/5
2/(10/x) = x/5
2 * x/10 = x/5
2x/10 = x/5
x/5 = x/5

there is no solution because there are 2 variables and 1 equation. you can, however, solve for either variable in terms of the other.
x in terms of w: x=10/w
w in terms of x: w=10/x

I guess I'll start off by solving for x.
2/w = x/5 so multiply both sides by 5
10/w = x and you're all done.
If you're solving for w then
2/w = x/5 multiply both sides by w
2 = wx/5 Now multiply both sides by 5
10 = wx and divide both sides by x to get
10/x = w
