I have been to 33 states, 30 countries (some more than once) and stationed in 3 of them. I've been on 6 continents, 8 oceans/seas. I've been as far east as Pakistan, as far west as Thailand, as far north as Nova Scotia and as far south as Antarctica for 13 months (with a one day trip to 'the Pole').

I've driven cross-country several times and flown it twice.

Perhaps the most interesting trip was one I made in 1972, during the country's worst winter storms since 1964. I drove a 1966 Volkswagen, which in those years had no heaters. At some point my speedometer froze and screeched for hundreds of miles. Eventually I went under the dashboard and disconnected it. Still heard the screeching that night when I closed my eyes.

I hit a patch of black ice in Texas and spun out (because I'd never driven in ice or snow before this trip and although I knew you weren't supposed to hit the brake if you fishtailed, I didn't know removing your foot from the gas had the exact same effect). Fortunately, the car was spinning with so much momentum that it spun back up onto the shoulder of the road. I sat there and first thanked God for my life, and then I cried.

That night, in Henrietta, Okla., the interstate was shut down and everyone was directed to emergency shelter at the Catholic Church or the fire station. I chose the fire station, where we were entertained by an episode of "Rescue 8."

When I reached my brother's house in Alabama, he moved my car into his garage and kept a portable heater trained on it for two days to melt the build-up of ice in the wheel well.

I grew up in a suitcase; having been a military brat and lived in Italy and France; traveling back then to England, Luxembourg, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Germany, Switzerland.....

In the states: New England, NC, SC, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Ohio, Arizona, CA, Michigan, Pennsylvania, NY, Conn, Iowa, Wisconsin, VA, MD

Caribbean: St. Martin/Sint Maarten, St. Thomas, Bahamas, St. Johns, Cozumel, Barbados, Aruba, Dominica, Belize, San Juan, Antigua, St. Lucia, Playa del Carmen.

My favorite trip as an adult was 2-1/2 weeks in St. Martin - back in '90 with my best friend. Now THAT was a vacation! We rented a car - drove around the entire island and ignored all travel books and tourist traps; met a ton of great people; found some neat clubs for evening partying; and got to really immerse ourselves in the culture.

Thinking of going to Bermuda next year if my funds will support it! LOL

Hubby and I have done lots of traveling. Europe mostly, but our best and favorite trips were here in the USA. We went to Alaska,Hawaii, the west coast all over the east coast, the midwest, the south, and our very favorite the southwest. We made 5 trips out to the southwest, spent time in Colorado,Utah, New Mexico.and Arizona.Got to see spectacular sights,The Grand Canyon, got to ride on the Silverton Railroad, spent a week touring Sedona, drove to 4 corners where those 4 states come together, spent time in Indian towns, toured the painted Desert, the canyons where the Anasasi people built their homes into the walls, went to ghost towns,on and on, I could spend a yr there and not see everything I wanted to. Sorry I rambled, but thats where my heart is.

My favourite trip was when my husband and I flew from Toronto to Bisbee ,Arizona to visit my mother who was living there at the time. When we left the Tuscon airport ,I remember being so impressed with the large cactus garden at the front entrance. When we finally got to my moms place she had a "hotel" where they housed young people from the Peace Corps. At that time in the 60's, they were going to places like Lybia which didn't last long. I thought at the time what a great way to see the world and meet the "real" people of the country.

I have only traveled in some of the eastern US. As far west as I've ever been was Chicago. I'd love to see more of the world though. My favorite trips are any time I get to visit with my family.
