Was it alive or dead?? Sorry but this one has me rolling on the floor! LOL! Especially the other answers. Oh. ok.. you really want a serious answer I assume.. I'm not sure how you could go about proving that this roach was really in that can. Some people make a living out of bringing bugs to a resturant and after consuming most of the expensive meal, they drop the critter in the food and call the manager. Of course, they get a profuse appology and most likely offered either another dinner (what? I'm full already!!) or their money refunded.(Now that's the one!) So, although you may have been somewhat tramatized for a few by your unpleasant discovery, I doubt you could prove it was in there to begin with, and second, that you were drasticly harmed by this. Forget hiring a lawyer, and spend the money on your beloved sardines, maybe by another company? Call them if you really feel you need to do something, and complain. Who knows, maybe they'll send you a free year's worth! Hopefully, without any of the extra. By the way, I hate sardines, but to each his own! PS. Maybe the roach should sue the company. After all he's dead! lol

the distributor has no control on what or how the product was produced.
complain to the canning company, they should replace the product at no charge.
legal action is very near impossible if the cannery company is not a USA company and or not located on USA soil.
good luck

I hope you kept the can with the roach in side. If not case closed... Call the cmpany in Canade or on line and tell them what you found. They will want info on the can. Then will probable send you some coupons.
Can't sue -- you did not eat the roach. If you ate the roach then there is no evidence...

Don't even think about suing. Take the can back to the store for a refund or a new one. Or call the company and tell them what happened, see what they say. It's not a lawsuit.

Ewwww....sardines are gross. The cockroach probably tastes better. Save the la cucharacha and the can's contents and call the company direct. They will make it right.

...or you could just throw the can away and get on with your life? Or is your life really that boring that you're ready to give all your time and money to pursue a law suit...and for what?
Were you scarred for life? Did you eat the cockroach?
Call the company, maybe they can offer you some money or more of their sardines...but don't sue them.

If the sardines didn't complain, why should you ?
A note or email to the company might be nice.

"a qualified nutritionist, Sanga has been able to prove that the nutritional value of insects compares well with that of more conventional foodstuffs. For instance, 100 grammes of dried insects contains 37 to 60 grammes of protein, and four to 33 grammes of fat. This, he says, is exactly the same amount of protein and fat found in 100 grammes of dried pork. Furthermore, some insects contain the same amount of calcium and phosphorus as a duck egg."

Well, you should just pick the cockroach out of the can and continue eating. You can't have good taste if you eat sardines anyway.
