Very little is know of his childhood. His mother's maiden name was Arden which gives the forest of Arden in As You Like It its name. She was the daughter of a rich landowner. His father was a glover and an alderman, so he was probably exposed to rural politics. This comes up in several plays including As You Like It.

He as probably trained in the classics which probably gave him exposure to the Greek playwrights which gave him themes and limited material for his romances and tragedies and he would have studied history which would have given him background for his histories.

why would you need that? got a strange teacher? what affected his writing from his childhood was his education where he read the stories he retold in his plays.
