so a few months ago i decided i wanted to go far away to college, so over the summer i went and visited about 5. my parents arent crazy about the idea of me going far away but they would let me if i really wanted to.i was pretty set on going up to 14 hrs from home. i wanted to go that far because i really just wanted to get away from the place i had spent my whole life and get to know a different area of the country, even if there are great schools near me. then the other day i was driving through a very nice area where i live and it filled me with emotion and made me not want to leave anymore now im really confused. im in love with my hometown but i figure i have to leave eventually cause there arent jobs that im interested in. so the question is leave soon or leave later? i dont know, anyone else experience this, what did u do?

far:
belmont, elon, middle tenn, appalachian state, coastal carolina

You should see if your parents would give you all or have of the difference to put toward a house, savings fund, or car if you don't have one. You'll be secure if you want to move and allot of people end up in debt after college. If money doesn't matter pick some place that you could take a short trip to visit on weekends. My cousin went far away (she very much wanted to leave our town) and now she hates it she doesn't know anyone and says it hard to meet people.

I'm dealing with the same thing right now because I have been thinking about schools very close to home (in Michigan) and schools very far from home (in Florida) and it tends to be a little overwhelming.

My advice is that if you really don't want to move far away from home right now, don't. Spend the first two years of college at a university close to your home, and if you still want to move after those two years, you can spend the last two years of college at a university far from home.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

I moved 16 hours away to attend college, and I fell in love with the area and made a life for myself. I went through the emotions of leaving too, but trust me, seeing other places will make you grow as a person. I know many people who moved far away to go to college, but they returned to their hometown to open dental practices, doctors' offices, etc. It just gives you a well-rounded education.

two thought:

if there is a money issue then it is better to stay close to home

If there is no money option then maybe going far away will be a good experience!! I myself will be bout 7 hours from my home!! I think it will be a good change and i want to lern more about my country!!

Do whatever feels right!! i hate my hometown so it doesnt worry me?? But just because you are going to college doesnt mean its not your hometown anymore!!

good luck
