I have heard that the speeds of 478 pin processors differ from those of 775 pin processors. Will a PC with 478 pin 3.4 or 3.2 GHz processor with 1.2GB RAM be able to support Vista Ultimate and Office 2007? Will it deliver as good performance? Also, what amount of L2 ( 1MB or 2MB ) cache is needed for optimum performance? Please explain with links.

Thanx in advance!

You will need to add some ram. Ultimate likes at least 2 gigs. But everything else looks just fine. The Pent. 4 will handle Vista just fine.

After you have loaded Vista, come back to this forum, there are a few things in Vista that need to be turned off to get the best performance out of this new operating system.

First, even say, a Duron processor can run Windows Vista (Provided you can bypass the hardware check.) because by technicality all x86 processors are x86, and will run any x86 program, Windows Vista included.

So of course any Pentium 4 processor can run Windows Vista along with Office 2007. However, good performance, since you're asking about Office 2007, which is just a typing program. Then I'll say yes.

If you're gonna ask for games though..... Stick to Windows XP.

To specifically answer your question about L2 cache. L2 Cache is included in the processor you're using. By theory, if you have the EXACT SAME processor name and speed, the one with the more L2 cache is faster.
