Talk honestly with people and they will give you more honest answers. Say what you want, or ask what you'd like to know.
Why is it so hard to talk?
do you want to see her? Ask her to come and see you? do you want to see her? ask if you visit her up in CT? why not? Life is short and grandmas don't live forever. Be loving and honest.

Do you miss her?
Given a chance, with today's methods of communication, e-mail, phone etc. you could have a more meaningful relationship with her now than before, and the visits could be wonderful. Don't let her out of your life. I'm a grandparent and trust me you grandchildren mean more to us than you can imagine.

Why did you move to Connecticut? How is it there? Isn't it a lot different from Florida? How are you. It seems like it would be a lot colder in winter there.

just acknowledge it. say something like " i see" or maybe smile. the important thing is that you listened.
now if you really want to keep the conversation going. you can use the questions, like when, what, how, why, etc. or you can ask something about connecticut.
it really depends on who you're talking to and what you want to happen. either you end the conversation, impress someone, etc.
