Because they are always overrated. Winning in the Big 10 is different than winning a "national championship" and I know the Buckeyes won a very controversial "championship" a few years ago on an extremely controversial call by the officials. The team speed issue is going to haunt the Big 10 until one of their teams shows they can keep up with Florida or LSU or USC in a bowl game that really counts. The Big 10 has OSU, Michigan, and Wisconsin. This year it looks as though Illinois and Michigan State are improved and capable of knocking off one of the "big boys". I think the reason Ohio State is always called overrated is because the conference is not in the top 2 or top 3 any more. Outside of OSU, Michigan, and Wisconsin who is afraid of any Big 10 team if they play against the SEC or Pac 10 or Big 12? Ohio State plays a weak schedule and this should be taken into account by the BCS. I mean look at South Florida for example. Here is a team Ohio State would probably have major problems against with their team speed. USF has beaten Auburn and West Virgina already this year. Who has Ohio State beaten, Washington? The Huskies lost the next 2 games after OSU and their record is now 2-3. OSU will of course move up in the polls after the upsets of teams ranked above them yesterday, but that will only make them even more susceptible to the overrated description. I think no. 8 is about right. This is a very good team that probably about 7 other teams could easily handle on a neutral field.

Transitive property doesn't work in football. It doesn't mean anything that Ohio State beat Washington by more.
Under that type of logic you can navigate yourself to some very stupid results, including a solid argument that South Carolina was better than Ohio State last year since they lost by field goal to Florida in the Swamp while OSU got blown out. Ridiculous, I'm sure you'd agree.
The reason people are calling them overrated is because they have beaten NOBODY. The first two games were against good high school teams, Washington is on the rise but is probably only 4th or 5th best team in the PAC-10, and Minnesota and Northwestern are the bottom of a Big 10 that is clearly down this year. The record of the three real programs they've beaten this year is 5-10 with ZERO conference wins among any of them. Not exactly tough competition.
Given the amount of talent lost on offense last year, it is unlikely that this year's squad is a top 10 program, but they will be ranked very high after this week.
Until they beat somebody who is a legit top 15 program they will remain untested and be subject to the "overrated" argument.
Since they play only one team in the top 10 (assuming a pedestrian looking Wisconsin team can stay there), they really have a cakewalk into a BCS game.

It goes back to the national title game where Tressel's team looked like a Cooper-coached squad that read too many articles stating how great they were. The polls this week should have the Buckeyes third (fourth at the lowest) and they are back in the title mix. But the game against Purdue on Saturday night will go a long way in determining just how real the Buckeyes are....the Boilermakers have given the club fits with the home night contests.

Not close to referred to as overvalued adequate. People we could be truly, in particular Buckeyes enthusiasts, Who did you play to end up 10-zero? Illinois used to be the one truly scan you have got had except Wisconsin, who's fully inconsistent and extra overvalued than you're. If you're in a BCS convention and feature hopes of gambling for a country wide name, do not agenda groups like Kent State and Division a million-AA Youngstown State for non convention matchups. They feasted on weaker competitors and ultimately met up with any person who did not purchase into the hype of the Ohio State computing device. Sorry Luckeyes, you will not get blown out for the moment yr in a row via an SEC institution.

I wouldn't say they destroyed them, took a second half to get away.
Also gave up a safety to Akron, have a weak defense with all kinds of holes, a mistake ridden running back with injury proneness and the worst qb in the big ten?
You show me a team you're confident that they could beat, and I'll show you a team outside of the top 35 in college football.
Plus their fans are ugly.

Big deal, if you compared like opponents between teams and went by wins and losses and scores nothing would make sense.
Anything can happen on any given Saturday, it is what happens over the course of a year that matters. Ohio State has not played anyone yet. We will get a better glimpse with the Purdue game.
Not that I like USC but when a team can play bad and still win that says something. And their offense played bad, and it wasnt always the Huskies defense that did it.

I say let Ohio State be considered over-rated.Last years National Championship game wasn't what it seemed. Ginn Jr. injury changed the outcome. Having a weapon like him makes it very hard for the defense, yet losing him makes Ohio State more one dimensional.
Ohio State will play in a major bowl game...again.The may have a 1 loss season....

Using that logic, Connecticut destroyed Akron yesterday. Since you struggled with Akron, should Connecticut be ranked ahead of you?

they haven't beaten anyone good. they are not as good as the team that got blown out by florida. they lost a lot of skill players from last year. esp Ginn and what's his name... the guy that was not as good as jamarcus russell (they put up identical stats but LSU played against much higher ranked defenses) but won the heisman anyway.
