I am running windows XP home on a AMD processor that is comparable to Pentium 4.

When I start my computer it shows nothing on the screen and makes a sound with three quick beeps followed by two shorter and deeper beeps.

Sounds like this

beep-beep-beep--------dooooooooodoooo

What do I do?!

Help

It's trying to tell you it is broke. Depending on your bios, it can mean different things.

For some BIOS, three beeps means a memory error.

Sorry to have to ask questions, but to help you, I must.

Has it ever worked?

What was the last thing you changed?

Beep codes are part of the self test which give clues as to what is broken, similar to Morris code,. The BIOS manufacturers all use different codes - but my bet is memory. I would start by removing & replacing the sticks with the power cord disconnected. Before reconnecting the power, find the 110 / 220 volt switch on the power supply and slide to 220 and back to 110 a couple of times. Reconnect everything and attempt to power up.
If that doesn't help, get the book out and see if you can discover who the BIOS chip manufacturer is and visit their web site for more details as to what is ailing your machine.

you need to take it in to get repaired. Sorry. those beeps are codes being sent to tell the repair guy which piece of hardware is baked. The beeps mean something. And with the way modern computers are built, with everything integrated on to the motherboard, those beeps are BAD news. You're probably looking at getting a new motherboard. hopefully computer guy is right and it's just bad ram.

you will desire to call a restoration guy for that... merely by way of listening to what occurred no person can rather inform you what went incorrect. the pc desires to be inspected to work out if some thing broke and to pay attention precisely what the noise feels like. do no longer play around with it too plenty until you get somebody to examine it out.
