how do you print out 3-d objects as 2-d prints?

just like how a sphere globe is printed as another shape onto an atlas. the reason id like to know is because i want to print out stencils to cut out and put onto an uneven surface such as a helmet.

For your stencils, you'll make small cuts in strategic places to get them to go around the curves.
