I read a book about teasing someone is related to jealousy about him or her. Can this be true? Can someone be jealous for just something you do best?

Yes. What draws their attention? If a person despises someone else, doesn't think anything of them at all, they simply wouldn't take the trouble to acknowledge them. Teasing takes effort. There is a very definite reason for it, although I would also say that they could be doing it because they're hoping to gain something from it socially, ie, popularity or attention from others who are unrelated.

I don't tease because I'm jealous. I tease to "poke." I want to say something that will cause a reaction from the other person. I like witty reparte, quick answers and funny gotchabacks.

I guess someone could tease like that, but it seems that the teasing would be in front of others and with a little barb intended to injure the teasee.

Take care,

We become jealous when we fear that a rival is taking away from us someone or something we depend on emotionally. In many ways, jealousy is really an acute sense of loss, defeat, or rejection in which we focus on the real or imagined superior as an antagonist who is the cause of our suffering (

Like love, we have no control over feelings of jealousy. Saying to yourself, "I am not going to be jealous" does nothing to curb such feelings. Psychologists believe that jealousy is not only instinctive, but also a life-long conditioning process that begins in the crib. A small baby may experience jealousy from the first instant he or she realizes that mother's attention must be shared

We must realize that a meaningful, lasting relationship can only be based on trust. A general feeling of mistrust toward others may indicate a lack of confidence in oneself and make one more prone to jealousy. It may also be related to disappointing experiences we have had with others that have no connection with our present relationship

Depends on what KIND of 'teasing'. (wink wink)

Seriously, if someone is teasing you or better known as 'tearing you down", then there are a couple possibilities of their motive. They could be jealous, evnious, or generally feel inferior. They 'tear you down' so they feel your on the same level as them. The problem is, as they tear you down, they inadvertantly put themself even lower than they were.

People can tease or be nasty to you if you can do something better than they can yeah... which is kinda pathetic really.
It probably makes them feel better about themselves, but by teasing you their not doing themselves any favors; i mean it's not like their going to get better at what you can do better than they can!
I think that made sense..?
