It would have to be a tie between Chicago (Il.) and Charleston (S.C.) here in the states. Overseas it would have to be, hands down, Santa Teresa di Gallura, Sassari (province), Sardinia. We lived there for over 3 years (1972 -1976)in a fully furnished, 3 bedroom, maid's room, 1 bath, kitchen, living room (20X25) with a balcony over looking the harbor and the Straits of Bonafacio for less than $90 a month! I've only been back once in 1985 for 10 days camping in a 2 man tent alone.

Hi. Well, I love New York, and the reason why I love it is because in this city I met my ex husband, raised my children , got my education, and because I have grown roots that are so dificult to cut off. Adding to that is, because here you can find evertything you don´t find in other states or cities. Also because is the city that never sleeps, and last but not least, is because you find all types of people and cultures which makes it a very interesting place to live. Yes, I love my big red apple!

Athens, Georgia, "The Classic City"
Lots of scenic routes and historic sites. Laid back. Friendly folks/Southern Hospitality. Low cost of living. Great college town. UGA campus is gorgeous. Atmosphere during home game days is electric even if you are not a UGA fan. Great restaurants. Excellent town for retirees.
I currently live in Charlotte, NC, which is much bigger, and where there is more to do, but gosh, do I miss Athens!

I adore San Antonio, Texas, and the drive from there to Austin, Texas. It is loaded with places to go:
The Riverwalk.
The Alamo.
Seaworld
The Zoo.
New Braunfels, a great place to rent a cabin by the river and float.
The people are great.
The food is excellent.
Feeding the fish at the sidewalk restaurants along the Riverwalk.

My Favourite CITY..... Is ... LONDON... England !
I have visited Several Times.... and plan to go again this year.
I enjoy the CULTURE.... and have had many conversations with the People there.
The Economic Depression from the Large Number of Immigrants... has left Many ... Britts.... Discouraged...!
The HISTORY... especially the Museums... show much of what ENGLAND came from... and where they are NOW!
Thanks, RR

Outside of Maine I'd have to say St. Simon's Island, Georgia, New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Both are small, laidback places that sort of feel like small, New England towns....esp. New Smyrna Beach....also great history there.

I like Oak Island, NC. My sister used to have a house there and we lived in the area over a year. I like the beach and the neighborhood type atmosphere.

If you mean a place to be without regard to the cost of being there, I'd be in California, probably in San Francisco. But it is too expensive.
When I did live in SF, I had more fun, more places to go and things to do, more friends, more interesting and varied friends . . . had I been able to afford to live there at that time, I would probably still be there now.

I have traveled a lot over this country (USA) & found beautiful county & people where ever my feet my roam, so really can't pin down one area.
The busy cities you can keep, but the rest are true works of art.
