what is the difference between european and american chocolate? I have heard that american chocolate is bitter and more like dark chocolate. I have trid hersces peanut butter cups, but the emphasis sees to be on peanut and the chocolate is dissapointing as in oreos.Do you have cadburys or aero's, kit-kats, ferrero rocher or guylan belgian truffles? see pics?

If you've only tried peanut butter cups, you haven't tried Hershey's. Get a block of their Special and Milk chocolates - heavenly.

I honestly don't like cadbury's, but love godivas. Still a plain milk chocolate hershey bar puts me in heaven....

It seems like every bar of European chocolate I've ever had included some form of nut or filling so I don't think I can judge it well.

Most American chocolate is "milk chocolate". Not only is there milk in it, there is less cocoa and more sugar. We usually call European style chocolate "dark chocolate" but when we make it we often process it more and add more sugar.

Often even our "imported fine chocolates" are actually different than real Europeans chocolates. Many of them are made especially for American pallets.

The distinct flavor of Hershey's chocolate has a funny history. Milton S. Hershey pioneered techniques for making chocolate cheaper and easier to make. He experimented with purchasing raw materials in bulk and storing them in a half mixed state.
In one of the longer term storage bins the ingredients developed a benign mold but otherwise withstood the storing process.
In taste tests, customers preferred the aged chocolate to the fresher chocolate.
Thus the distinct Hershey's flavor was born.

PS: They no longer allow mold to grow on the ingredients; they use an artificial flavor to capture the same taste.

I believe that the difference is between a real milk and a milk powder. Also American chocolates have to have wax for the severe weather changes during the transportation. The white stuff top on the chocolate is wax. Wax free chocolates are much better.
