Notre Dame played way better in the second half against Purdue. The offensive line started to block, and he finally put in some receivers that aren't 5'2''. I thought that the problem was Clausen can't see those receivers, plus they don't have the speed to get open. He put the young guys in, and they started moving the ball. Tate, Kamara, and Paris. I think they should play all the freshman and sophomores for the rest of the season, to get some experience for next year. Oh yeah, and bench Clausen, he's a premadonna.

Well, I think we are getting better under Sharpley, Claussen just hasn't been getting it done and while I understand he's a freshman, there hasn't even been an improvement. A lot of people are blaming it on the O-Line and while they are right because they've blocked like crap, it's not 100% their fault. Claussen has been making dumb throws. As a 1st year starter I can handle the dumb throws for a couple games, but at some point you have to break the habit. Yesterday he was scrambling to his left and throwing on the run across his body to a guy literally only 10 yards away and he lobs it so it's easily picked off. A lot of people are also impressed with his poise in the pocket. I have to disagree though because there are numerous times where he scrambles out of the pocket before it even breaks down, kind of like he is expecting the O-Line to not do their job. You have to at least have faith in the big uglies!
Now as a Notre Dame alumnus/fan, it pains me to say everything I just did. But seriously, is it like in the Claussen DNA to suck in college? Those boys at Rocky Top didn't do much better when they were there. Oh ya and about your premadonna comment, this picture was in the Daily Herald (Chicago newspaper):
http://www.collegefootball.org/newsimages/844-med.jpg

Now how do you look at that picture with him showing off his rings and NOT think premodonna. Haha, man it's been awhile since I've had to insult my domers.
As for Sharpley, it's definately time he starts. We actually had a chance at that game yesterday with him in there. Do we stand a shot against USC with him in there? Absolutely not. But with Claussen, against BC and Air Force we'd get blown out but I think we have a shot at those games with Sharpley. BC beat D1-AA UMass by only 10 yesterday so they are a little cold, good time for us to pounce! Sharpley makes good, accurate throws which is something Claussen hasn't gotten into a rhythm of yet. I understand this is a rebuilding year, but I think Claussen was a waste of hype. At Oak Hill HS, he had an O-Line that actually blocked and wide receivers that were taller than the oompa-loompas.
Sharpley, however, has found a way to work with what he has. So to answer your question I think we are getting better but only if Sharpley is in there. Which answers your second question YES we need to bench Claussen. I'm not sure if he'll ever become the college star he was hyped to be. I hope he proves me wrong.
GO IRISH

Everything you said was pretty accurate except what you said about Clausen...Clausen is the most talented (but inexperienced) QB they have...and the future...Of course, it will be good for Clausen to have competition next year, and he will with Dane Crist coming in...I think Golden Tate and either Duval Kamara or Robby Parris should be the starting WRs...David Grimes is not as good as they are...but for now, maybe they SHOULD be playing Evan Sharpley, who moved the ball better anyway...The 2 biggest problems they have are the OL sucks and that the D can't seem to stop anyone...I think if they want to salvage any wins out of this season, Sharpley should play for now...Clausen or Crist can start next season...unless of course Sharpley continues to look better...

yes to both questiond. I am a huge Notre Dame fan....and actually have done a lot of digging to find out why the Irish suck so bad. And very little of it has to do with Charlie.

The gist of it is that the Players recruited by Charlie are Freshmen, with a few sophmores(who are hard to count, being Weis first year recruiting, ever)...the rest of the Upper Classmen are leftovers from Willingham...and his average recruiting class was about 42nd in the nation.....meaning he was recruiting the same caliber of player that one would expect Duke or Cicncinatti to be going after....kinda shooting low for a blue chip school, since OSU, Michigan, Florida, and USC are perenial top 10 recruit classes.

That said...Weis has managed to start giving them some identitiy (I think Weis' problem is that he has never had to deal with this little talent before....and he assumed they at least knew the basics...which they obviously don't...that is Charlies fault...but minor). We have seen the offense suddenly double and triple its output, even with no o-line, and only one really decent player on offense(John Carlson). I think it is gonna continue....though it will be progressive, not in huge leaps.

As for Jimmy "tackle dummy" Clausen.....he needs to sit. Learn humility, learn the game for a season or two...like most QBs in college. Evan is showing far better awarenessof his surroundings, so even if he is mechanically "inferior", he makes less mistakes than Jimmy...and when you have a team like ND this season...you cannot afford any mistakes.

I agree with you about Clausen...have felt that way since his shenanigans at the HOF......I only hope that Zib's draft stock isn't getting screwed by all this.

They are getting better on offense. Playing Purdue is going to make any team look better however. Michigan and Michigan State in their two preceding games were much better opponents than Purdue and for that reason I don't think the ND fans have much reason for cheer. The next 3 games look like sure losses for ND. Navy appears possible and the last 3 games should produce at least 2 wins. It looks to me like 3 wins with this team would be the best any ND fan could expect. This team has a lot more problems than QB.

Crist and Clausen might desire to compete for the beginning place. No place might desire to be taken with no attention in this team. in simple terms the Notre Dame Brass knows of Weis' destiny. i'm listening to blended comments. some comments say he would be back next year. some comments say they are engaged on a purchase out for Weis. Weis is in his 4th season. Supposedly those are his recruits. paradoxically the modicum of fulfillment that Weis did have have been with gamers he did no longer recruit. what's way less confusing to believe that Syracuse and Pitt out recruit ND, or that Weis' team is below-achieving? 6 and six isn't a demonstration of progression for any important college application till this methodology is getting back from the NCAA dying penalty. i think of Carroll took it ordinary on ND the day previous, and in simple terms made specific that he lined the unfold using fact that Oregon State became out of it.

Clausen isn't doing anything wrong. Notre Dame's center can't snap the ball and their entire offensive line can't do a thing hence the crappy run game and the high amount of sacks. Keep the kid in and let him get the feel for it and in 3 years Notre Dame will be back in it.

bob t officially has no business posting on here.....

Clausen is a true freshman and he's been playing somewhat well. He is the top recruit in the nation and by week 7 or 8 he'll start playing well. Next year he'll be really good.

Most of his problems are lack of offensive line and lack of receivers running routes, as well as lack of running back to dump to as well as make them a 2-dimensional offense.

You have to be patient with ND because they lost their qb, wrs, rb, and a lot of their line last year as seniors. Weiss has a complicated system too, and I'm by no means a ND fan.

The only part of the game they played better was when Claussen came out of the game. That kid sucks and he should be benched. Charlie won't do it though, because they are butt buddies.

Notre Dame has only one chance to win a game now, and that is against Navy.

I'd have to agree

If you team is that damn shitty,

why not play your freshman and sophomores

they will gain experience
