Do you have to ask? It goes without saying, GREEKS ARE GREAT! I sometimes wish I had lived during that period of Egyptian history when Alexandria in particular was a cosmopolitan city with all different nationalities there. Greeks are number one on my list. You my dear are a wonderful example of an extremely nice Greek.

The contribution of the Greek population in the financial life of Egypt was very important. It was the Greek agriculturists and farmers that first systematically and with scientific planning, have cultivated cotton and tobacco. They improved the quantity and quality of the production and have dominated the cotton and tobacco commerce doing large exports. Notable families that dominated the commerce of tobacco were the Salvagos, Benachis, Rodochanakis and Zervoudachis. The tobacco breeds used for the cigarettes manufacturing was purely of Greek origin. A thriving commerce between Greece and Egypt was thus established. Other areas of interest for the Greek Egyptians were the food, winery, soap, wood craft, typing industries. The first banks in Egypt were created by Greeks like the Bank of Alexandria, the Anglo-Egyptian bank (Sunadinos family) and the General Bank of Alexandria. There were many Greek theatres and cinemas. Major Greek newspapers were Ta grammata (Γράμματα) and Nea Zoi (Νέα Ζωή). The Greek community in Egypt has produced numerous artists, writers, diplomats and politicians. The most famous of them was the poet Konstantinos Kavafis.

Past ancestors. Both of her parents have the genes for blond hair and blue eyes, which just so happened to activate in her. You really never know with genes, especially when you have mixed ancestry. The Mediterranean region has historically been a meeting point for diverse groups and civilizations who have added their genes to the mix. In Greece's case, you had Slavs and others from further north who periodically invaded and settled in Greece. Some Ancient Greeks were also likely blond although most were not. In Egypt's case, you had Ancient Greeks and Romans, and also some Muslim Albanians and Bosnians who served in the Ottoman Turkish army and settled there during the period of Turkish rule. Any of those groups would likely be responsible for the incidence of lighter hair and eyes in Egypt.

My parents were born in Madrid and I was born in Barcelona. I know we are welcomed in Egypt as well as Greeks. One day I will go to Egypt to see the Gardens of Babylon and the Library of Alexandria which are of the 7 wonders of the world.

Spanish people are also welcomed in Greece as a friend told me last year.

One of our best family friends , Greek, was born and brought up in Egypt. He too remembers Egypt and Egyptians having the best impression. His parents who had lived there in the Greek Community for many years, had a cosmopolitan aura as a result of the environment. One of my best friends here in Yahoo, is Egyptian and is an exceptionally fine person.
