The PC is 1 year old. Intel 3.2 GHZ processor, 1024 MB ram,
two Hard Drives (120+80 GB) running Windows XP. It takes about 5 minutes to boot and runs really slow. I had some games installed but i 've unistalled them all. I've degragmented the disk, checked it for errors, defragmented and optimized the registry, chosen only the important programs to start on startup, used Norton and AVG to check for viruses and spyware but nothing....
Any ideas???

After doing all that you've done, there's nothing much else you can do. You can try cleaning the registry (registryrescue.com has a tool, you can find others also) Other than that, the best you can really do is look into getting a new computer.

Norton is a resource hog. Also, if you are using both the Norton and AVG antivirus, it is not recommended. See below

Note: Only use one anti-virus product. Running more than one can cause conflicts thus rendering each ineffective.

If you are running more than one antivirus, uninstall one of them.

Afterwards, check to see if your Norton or AVG is automatically checking for updates and running a system scan at startup, that can slow things down significntly as well.

Try disabling all your startups in msconfig (Run msconfig). If booting up is still slow, your OS could be messed up. Try XP's self repair feature that leaves ALL files INTACT:

1)put your PC in the (real) trash can

2)if you want you can buy a Mac mini and be able to use both your old operating system (hahahah I can't resist) and your monitor

3)or buy a gorgeous iMac with all the software that comes with it preinstalled
