After the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, Austria- Hungary gave Serbia a 10 - point ultimatum and 48 hrs. to reply. Serbia accepted 9 points but rejected the 10th. The 10th point would of allowed Austrian officials to conduct the Archduke's murder investigation unhindered in Serbia territory. Austria really didn't want Serbia to agree to the ultimatum, then they could use it as an excuse to attack Serbia. Austria invaded Serbia a few days later.
