Why is the pronunciation of Kansas and Arkansas so different?

Kansas after the Kansa tribe

Arkansas is French for indian "land of downriver people".

It's because of regional differences. For example "Houston," is pronounced "Hyooston" in Texas and "House-ton" in New York.

ARKANSAS is pronounce as ARKANSA
