Blindfolded too? That's when it matters.

It's probably more comfortable in the front. But if the person being handcuffed is aggressive, it's probably safer for the person doing the handcuffing (ie a police officer) if the individual is handcuffed in the back.

behind the back would be for a criminal that would potentially try to resist, if it would be necessary.
in front, would be as to respect the rule if it must be handcuffed, it could be more politely.
I'm a civil citizen.
I would think if the suspect is cooperative, then lesser force will be needed. If the situation has confirmed to be under control, no potential hazard could come up, then the officer could calm down and take control of the situation fast and possibly more gently, it would be important for the officer to determine which it is, to have critically decisions making of the situation.

In terms of comfort and convenience? Being handcuffed in front is far more comfortable, you have better mobility and the ability to rest in a variety of positions, and you can be autonomous to a degree (like eating, writing, peeing, etc.).
If you are talking about rendering a prisoner less threatening, handcuffing in the back is better.

for total security people are sometimes handcuffed to a tight chain around their abdomen which prohibits them from jumping through the cuffs..but to answer your question if i had to be handcuffed i'd prefer the front, because i don't think it would be very comfortable if i had to ride in a squad car handcuffed behind my back. hopefully if i keep my nose clean i won't experience any of it...

When you are arrested, the handcuffs are put behind your back. It's uncomfortable especially when sitting down. Been there. You're less likely to be aggressive . If they are in front, you can still hit someone

Doesn't matter. If it's in back, I'll just jump over the handcuffs to get them in front. Ever seen that done? It looks pretty impressive, but it's not that hard to do, if you're flexible.
