If you are old enough to have sex and get pregnant then you need to be grown up about everything that goes with it and stop being such a sooky 16 year old baby!

I think a lot of you are out of order. Regardless of the fact that she is sixteen, she is an expectant mother expressing a fairly common worry. Many women find examinations painful and upsetting for many reasons - be they 16 or 60, pregnant or not. When they ARE pregnant it is INSTINCT to keep things out of that area!

There is absolutely NO reason for the doctor to be 'up there' in the first place. And no reason that you should say they'll be examining her left right and centre for the foreseeable future.

I personally was never examined throughout pregnancy and birth, I gave birth at home with a hands-off midwife and caught my own baby. I was at the time just six years older than you are now. I'm not suggesting that's what you should do, just pointing out that those telling you you'll have to get used to it don't know all sides of the story. I feel for those women who don't know how different it can be. I digress.

I second the suggestion to tell you doctor how you feel and ask him not to do any exams unless absolutely necessary.. Also do some research on how necessary it is to have internal examinations in the first place. Unless something is wrong, they yield no more useful information until you're in labour. So you have a while to work on your fears. Try learning some relaxation techniques, they'll be useful throughout and help to keep you and your baby stress-free. Try going to antenatal yoga classes, they will give you some useful breathing exercises. Using these should help you relax which should reduce the pain you feel which will in turn make you relax more. I wouldn't take pain relievers in pregnancy for something like this.

Being examined is something that is necessary at times in your life, and in that sense it something you'll have to 'get used to' But there is absolutely nothing wrong with feeling the way you do, and you're doing the right thing in acknowledging it and seeking advice and information from women who have been there and done that. That is a very mature decision.

It is unlikely that you will need anything other than your belly examined at the ultrasound, they ask for a full bladder to get a better view of the baby in these early weeks.

I wish you well.

It's tough, but you need to take deep breaths, relax and try to think of something else at the time. Try to think of your grocery list, or close your eyes and sing your favourite song in your head... Remember to relax and release your knees. You tightening up just makes everything much more uncomfortable.

If it's a regular ultrasound (most common) and not a vaginal one, that is all outside work. The quart of water is so that they can see through your bladder from the outside.

they do hurt and when ur pregnant it hurts even more well thats my experience anyways, you just need to breathe through it don't tense ur mucles up when they are doing it because it will hurt even more. They ask you to drink heaps of water because the bladder pushes the utuers up so the sonographer can see baby properly, it won't hurt abit the worst part is when they put the gel on if its cold. they put gel onto ur belly and put the little thingy over ur belly and move it around and thats it. its the best thing in the world seing ur baby for the time. good luck hun u'll have fun!! and don't worry about those pelvic exams shouldn't happen to much, and you'll get use to it

yep, pelvics r very intrusive. what i do is talk to the dr and/or nurse. it sure helps. even joke around a bit. put your arm over your eyes. bring a stuffed animal or what makes u happy. u have to find what works 4 u since u have to get these every yr for most of u'r life.
when u drink the water they will do the test by putting jell on u'r belly and a ball will roll over your belly and u can see u'r baby on the computer screen.
if u pee the test can't be done.
good luck w/u'r new baby.

It's called a speculum. Get over it. The last 2 months you'll be going to your gyno every week. Fun stuff to look forward to, huh. Suggest you take Lamaze classes or you won't be able to handle labor pains. "hear the heart beat...see my baby" riiight, your life will never be your own again. Be prepared for little or no sleep and tons of frustration. You get what you deserve.

No sympathy from me. sorry.

If you are worried about the doctor sticking some fingers in you too feel around, what are you going to do when a 7-10lb baby is coming out. Girl, you need to grow up, you are pregnant and doctors and nurses are going to be in there for the entire pregnancy. Get use to it!!!
