Henry VIII divorced Catherine of Aragon because he felt that he needed a son and Catherine's one and only child that managed to survive childhood was a daughter, Queen Mary I. The official legal excuse which he used was that she had earlier been married to his older brother Prince Arthur. Then there was that little issue of Anne Boleyn, who was pregnant with Henry's second daughter Queen Elizabeth I.
By the way, Henry's thing about God disapproving of his marriage to Catherine because she had been his brother's wife is just an excuse: the Bible also says that if your brother dies childless you shall marry his widow and raise up children unto him for you shall not let your brother's name die out ib the house of Israel.

Getting a divorce meant that Henry was breaking the rules of the Catholic church and as a result risked having all Catholic nations turned against him. Also Catherine of Aragon was popular with the English people.

King Henry was concerned about the validity of his marriage. He reasoned that his lack of male issue was God's punishment for having married his brother’s wife. This reasoning together with his infatuation with Anne Boleyn, led him to the decision that he must divorce Catherine.
Henry told Catherine that they must separate because they had been living in sin. He asked her to co-operate and to choose a house to retire to until the matter was resolved. Catherine was stunned and upset and made it quite plain that she would resist any divorce.

Did she get divorced or was it annulled?
My recommendation would be to have you read Garrett Mattingly's biography of Catherine of Aragon entitled (believe it or not) CATHERINE OF ARAGON.
She was first married, as a child, to Henry's older brother who died, but since marriages amongst royalty at that time were for alliances, etc., she was then married to Henry VIII. She bore him no children that lived any time and only one son who was stillborn. Henry claims that she had consumated the marriage to his older brother and thus she was not a virgin when she was married to him. He did not want to PO the parents of Catherine, Ferdinand and Isabella, and thus just tucked her away and married someone else - several someone elses. A lot of his wives simply did not have a head for marriage.

Henry divorced Catherine claiming that she was married to his older brother Author first therefor making his marriage to her invalid. In reality he was having an affair with Anne Boleyn and wanted to marry her and was convinced that his inability to produce a male heir was Catherine's fault and Anne would be able to give him his long awaited son.His desire to marry her was so that the son he knew she would have would be true legitimate child and not another bastard.. At that time he already had one bastard son by Bessie Blount and quite possibly a second by Anne's sister Mary named Henry Carey although Bessie's Boy Henry Fitzroy (The name Fitzroy meant he was an acknowledged bastard of the king) was an acknowledged bastard of the king Mary's son was not and is still debated today. In short he needed a legitimate heir and he was convinced Anne would give him one.. at any cost

Because Henry divorced her. Allegedly, it was due to the fact that he wanted a son, but can you imagine how boring it would be to be married to Catherine?

She got divorced because her husband Henry was in love in Anne Boelyn. So Catherine just left and Henry married Anne.
