Cos he was given immunity for showing evidence. I think the whole thing sucks. Alonso has caused so many problems this year and he's doing a lot of damage to the sport. I just hope so much that he's not in McLaren next year. He doesn't deserve to have a good team behind him

Maybe it's because McLaren will penalise him in other ways. After today's race at Fuji, Lewis Hamilton announced that he "does not" want Alonso in the McLaren team for 2008. He made it so clear, that Alonso cannot work as a team, has no interest in the team and only cares about his own arrogant ego. Once again, this season, we seen a far better driver in Hamilton and Alonso losing it again. If he knew how to control his emotions, anger and aggresiveness. he wouldn't have hit the wall. Alonso has lost the World Championship to Hamilton now and he can only blame hinself. I just hope no other team touches him as I don't want 2008 to become an Alonso circus as 2007 has been. As for Ferrari, it was obviously a set up as Ferrari had constantly been trying to have McLaren penalised and been unsuccessful. As we all know, Ferrari are identical to Alonso, they both make poor losers. I believe that Ferrari should also have been punished for their lack of security and their unofficial agreements that they had made with both McLaren and Renault. The £50 million fine is going to hurt McLaren but the £100s of millions in lost sponsorship will hurt more. As for Ron Dennis, I felt sorry for him as once again he could not enter the podium and both he and the McLaren team have therefore received no credit for doing such a good job with Hamilton and getting his car to the chequered flag. I now believe that Lewis Hamilton is in the same league as Mansell, Senna and Schumaker (Michael) as he proved today, beyond all doubt, that he can control his emotions and aggressiveness. He also proved that he had the skills that no other driver on the circuit had. He was the only driver that assessed every part of the circuit and knew exactly where to drive for the best grip and the best control in those terrible driving conditions. All he need now is a fourth place and a fifth place, out of the last two races and the championship is his. If Hamilton wins the next race, he wins the championship and regardless of which, he deserves it.

The judgement was very perverse to say the least, but as others point out, it comes down the immunity given to drivers who gave information to the FIA.
It is my view that the judgement itself may contravene EU law, for it has favoured one guilty party and penalised another, which means that the legal concept of "without fear or favour" has been violated by the arrogance of Moseley and his cronies within the FIA.
Perhaps it is the FIA which now needs to be investigated, put on trial and then banned from all further involvement with motor-sport.
However, Alonso is being penalilsed. The press have crucified him, and as far as his own team is concerned, he is history.
As for Ferrari winning the contructor's title, that must be the hollowest victory of all, because the car, the team and the drivers are just not in the same class as Maclaren, and no-one will believe for a moment that they are worthy winners.

The two drivers that were involved were told by the FIA that if they co operated fully with the investigation that they would not be penalised. Hamilton had nothing to do with the emails between Alonso and de la Rosa. Justice will be done, Alonso's days with Mc Claren are numbered.

Top gears biggest fan is right. The FIA are gay, they keep changing the rules and making them up as they go along that they themselves don't even know why they do stuff. It's the FIA that should be penalized. It's because of them that the scandal was allowed to go on for as long as it did. If they had taken action quickly, then things may have been different.

I couldn't agree more, it is an outrage. I can't stand the man and I had a lot of respect for him at the start of the season, surely his behaviour are grounds for dismissal at the end of the season.

its all down to the internal politics of F1. Personally I think the FIA needs to be investigated.

What do you mean Ferrari got away? Ferrari commited a crime by reporting McLaren stealing their info? Funny
Pedro and Alonso agree to give evidence to the FIA and in return, they both gets immunity. Immunity means no punishment.
Alonso blackmailing Ron, that's not for the FIA to punish him. It's internal problems for McLaren, and its for them to sort it out themself.
