1. Take a chewable Vitamin C tablet every hour. That's one of the vitamins that you really can't overdose on -- the body simply gets rid of what it doesn't need. So a tablet every hour keeps the body infused.
2. Drink plenty of water.
3. Get plenty of rest. You'll recover quicker if you just take one or two days off and just rest and relax. Keeping up your busy schedule will not help your body fight the cold and recover.
Oh, and echinacea has largely been discredited as being a powerful herbal fighter.
Finally, your best bet for not getting sick is to wash your hands numerous times during the day. I worked at a hospital several years ago, and even though I was an administrator I had to take health classes twice yearly -- they were a real eye-opener to the fact that germs and bacteria are just everywhere! Wash hands before eating, after using the restroom, after shaking hands with anyone, after handling some paperwork, after touching your hair or any part of your skin, after going through your mail, after handling cash and coins, etc etc etc. Do not touch your eyes, mouth, or nose unless you've washed your hands first. If you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth to minimize the spread of germs, then immediately wash your hands. And avoid inhaling through your mouth -- the hairs inside your nose are there to prevent airborne stuff from getting into your lungs.
I know I may sound like a "germaphobe" but this really is sound advice that any credible doctor or nurse would corroborate. Since being more cognizant, I've gone from getting 2-3 colds per year to having only one at most [I recently had one, but for the previous two years I wasn't sick at all].

haven't had a cold in about 20 years or more...but getting a lot of rest, fluids, aspirins and I'd think something like nyquil would solve it. If you stay away from young children, don't let anyone into your private space during the winter months (or don't ride public transportation), and keep warm so you don't get a chill, you won't get a cold.
there's an old saying: "feed a cold and starve a fever". Feed I suspect means getting all your vitamins to strengthen your system.

I take acetylcistine which is sold under various brand names. It's good for the respiratory part of a cold.
Also, rest and drink plenty of fruit juice. Not sugarwater with 10% juice, real orange or other juice.

"Alka-Seltzer" Plus for colds...Orange tastes best, it relieves symptoms quickly, you have to take it every 4 hours so you get the fluids that you need, plenty of rest helps, and sometimes I'll smoke a joint, that seem's to help A LOT !
