For your first question...
To quote directly from this walkthrough: http://faqs.ign.com/articles/738/738689p1.html (Please check the guide out! It's amazingly useful.)

"The third Mine has 999 Floors. You will gain access to the Third Mine only
after having reached the 255th Floor of the 2nd Mine and having defeated all
the Dark Creatures on that Floor. You then will be given the Legendary Sword
as well, provided you have sufficient experience with at least one tool to be
able to upgrade it to Mystrile level."

It lists almost everything Muffy enjoys recieving, as well as what she doesn't. It also covers all of her heart events too.
