I quote a person from Q&A who recently told me that people "deserve" a home. I do understand the "American Dream" and believe that people should at least once in their lives, even if it is for a short period of time, should own a home. And I believe everyone should experience renting an apartment once or more in their lives as well. A person who owns a home must be organized and be able to budget since there are many things that need to be taken care of and timely, and they must have the income to support those needs. A mortgage is stressful if a person cannot meet those requirements. Real estate is an investment, and like any investment should not be gone into unless the person is ready and willing to lose money even though there is the possibility of "gain". The gain is that you have a roof over your head, and a mortgage that comes with tax incentives, even though some people say the reason they got into their own home is so that they can do what they want (lots of apartments have insulated walls so that's not an excuse about playing loud music only). Others buy a house to be promotable on the job, to be accepted into the community as showing yourelf as stable, and for competition purposes among friends and family. Other people buy a place to rent it out and live cheaply elsewhere and build their nestegg, so their purpose is for investment (to make money) only. For a person who travels a lot, who doesn't have to impress anyone, who wants only to invest, or who doesn't have the time, creativeness, or money to pay for home improvement then a mortgage isn't necessary in life. A lot of people think it's so easy to save or to get a mortgage, well it's not, and, if you don't read the fine print you can end up in foreclosure and it can ruin your life for a while.

I'd rather pay a mortgage than throw money away by paying rent for the rest of my life! A house is a major responsibility, and you have to make sure your financial status is sufficient enough so you can handle mortgage, higher utility bills (electric, gas, water), property taxes, minor/major repairs and upkeep, insurance, etc. One can get "spoiled" by living in an apartment because usually management handles issues such as plumbing and appliance repair, as well as general upkeep of the property. Once you buy a house, the responsibility of all this is yours and yours alone. Plumbing problems alone can be very costly to fix, and let's not even talk about electrical issues. I have never owned a house of my own, but I did live with my ex-boyfriend in his house, and I cannot even tell you how much money he spent on almost a quarterly basis repairing one thing or another! I'm just not ready for all of that yet!

Getting a mortgage is stressful but in the end it is your own property in the end! Renting is just throwing your money away in the long run!

Mortage. When you rent the place is NOT yours. As such you have to put up with noisy neighbor tenants and or any other problems that may arise. As a home owner the place is yours. So you can paint it, remodel it, Play your music at a higher level if you want. You can do all so many more things when you own rather than rent.

I guess buying is best but the thing is if something breaks like the A/C or something you have to pay to have it fixed urself instead of calling the maintenance man and getting it fixed for free
