It gets dark. No really.
The earth has rotated to a point (from your perspective) that the position of the sun has crept past the horizon. As the sun sets, you can watch the edge stream of light and the edge of the Earth's shadow creep across the horizon in a big purple band. Because their is no light, there is now an absence of light which is DARKNESS. We call it night. People sleep and on some nights, people get drunk.

the sun doesn't really 'go down', it shines in another part of the earth and the moon comes to your part...the cycle just keeps rotating....that's why when it's day in some parts of the earth, it's nighttime in others.

the thruth is that the sun don't really go down but it continue to shine and the earth continues to revolve around it while rotating.........
