As far as I know, most if not all operating elevators today do not kill anyone (unless fire, but that's nothing to do with the elevator being faulty)
The carriage basically has brakes system that will lock up the moment one or more of its cables breaks. It will be held up by the brakes and extra cables.

yes. that the elevator got stuck and the cables holding it up just weakened and the elevator fell and.. fell.. and fell....... until it collapsed and the two people in there died

yeah. i heard that the floor of the elevator will slide away. and you just fall to death. so be careful!!!

Yes and no...I've also heard the stoies above me....But don't worry,we'll all be safe.There is God above us all who knows what he is doing.So,enjoylife while you can.
