I'd go with one that works, and updates itself regularly.
If you want a free virusscanner: go with AVG. If you wanna pay for it: go with the McAfee suite (though for the light of me I can't see why you'd wanna do that :) )

I had McAfee when I first got a computer and absolutely HATED IT !!!! I like a program that is user-friendly and my cousin and I both hated dealing with their system and trying to find a solution *Hah* You have to pay to get online with them (unless they have changed that) to try and get help of any kind. When I bought a new computer from Dell this year, they insisted they had to install that.... as soon as I got my system in my hands, I removed it. No thanks.
There are two free ones that I have used.
Avast Virus Protection

That is a good program but when they update your computer, it slows it down until a window pops up telling you what they are doing.
The one I like the best and have had for almost a year

I have several friends who use AVG and I have been even more pleased with them than I was with Avast.
I heard years ago that Norton was good but have also been told that it isn't as good as it used to be, although the parental controls on it are good for parents who need that. My niece uses it on hers, mainly because of the parental control. She prefers using Avast or AVG and said she will go back to that when her kids grow up.

This is a very complicated question and I'm sure every answerer will have a different opinion! Every program has its
pros and cons, so you can't really find the best one.
However , I recommend AVG Anti-virus (if you are looking
for a free one) and Norton Anti-Virus 2008 (paid version).

For free protection: AVG or Avast
For paid protection:
1)For low-resources Pc's: Nod32 or Avast
2) For PC's with resources:Kaspersky Antivirus 7 or BitDefender Antivirus 2008(both have very good results at detecting and removing viruses, spyware and trojans)

Haha virtrava good one...
Well Eric if you want a good ANTIvirus I have been using norton 360 seems to work ok. One thing is that you can download it to 3 computers as part of your licence. So if you had 2 mates you could split it.

The one that I use and love is Avast free home edition, it works well and has a live shield. I like this cuz it works great and does not slow my PC down. Lot of the paid softwares slow your PC surfing.
