I have a 14 year old daughter who has suffered with Excema(hospitalised a fair few times)Asthma(both since birth) She was diagnosed with ADHD earlier in the year and has now been told she is suffering from Allergic Rhinitis a deviated septum loss of smell(never had one). She is deeply upset because right now she is taking 2 tablets a day for adhd,2 omega tablets a day, a nasal spray twice daily, inhallers 2 twice daily 2 evening primrose oil tablets daily and having to apply 2 different creams for excema due to having a different strain on her feet.I've looked at the forms and they seem hard to fill in.Is it even worth me trying?

It worth a try but I don't think you will get it. If they gave DLA to all the sufferers of Asthma, Eczema & Allergic Rhinitis, it would be a very high majoriity of the population. I have all 3 as well as Pernicious Anaemia, high blood pressure and GORD, I can't walk very far due to the asthma, I am on incapacity benefit but can't get DLA, there are very strict guide lines in place. I take 6 different drugs a day as well as all the creams. I have to pay from them all. Move to Wales... all prescriptions are free there.

You really need specialist advice from someone who deals with the benefit system day in day out, try a One Stop shop or Citizens Advice Bureau. The success rate for getting DLA first time around is low, approx. 45% but you should always appeal against any negative decision as they have an higher success rate.

Many gambling, drug addicts as well as obese people get both parts of DLA, it's not just a question of if you can walk for the mobility component of DLA but the quality of how you walk as well. ie. How far you can walk? Are you in pain while you are walking? Do you take giant strides or baby steps etc. It's all very complicated.

You can claim DLA if your condition severely restricts your life. It is not means tested, and you can be in full time employment. There are two bands of allowance. One at the lower rate is the care component, which caters for people who need help with personal care. The higher rate is the mobility component, which allows you to apply for a vehicle, in exchange for the allowance. You do not have to be housebound, but prove that your mobility is severely impaired. Ask your GP for advice, as he/she is the person the DLA contact in the first instance.

As far as I know ( my husband gets DLA the whole lot for being in a wheelchair) you have to be entitled to incapacity benefit first to be able to claim DLA

Yes the forms are very complicated and difficult I had to claim for my wife after she had a stroke. There are two parts... Care and mobility. Each has to be completed.. Although your daughters problems are distressing I am not sure they would qualify her for disability living allowance.. If she can walk a reasonable distance without distress that would rule out the mobility part. The care part would be determined by what she can do for herself and what she might need assistance for.. It is a difficult one... I would suggest you seek advice on this, together with help in completing the form. The citizens advice bureau probably can help or will suggest a body or organisation than can assist you.

Hi, yes it is definitely worth you claiming but do not try and fill the form in yourself! As other folks have said ask the CAB or call the Benefits Enquiry Line (BEL) on 0800 882 200
Monday to Friday 8.30 am to 6.30 pm, Saturday 9.00 am to 1.00 pm They will advise you. All the best

My little boy had eczema on his cheeks. I was not sure what method to use but I didn't want to make my boy go through any surgery treatments at this young age. Some suggested a plastic surgeon since it was in a very visible location but our family doctor recommend this natural guide.

Best Eczema Treatment?

There's a very good book for children with ADD,please don't let her take Ritalin, it's very damaging, this is the book:

For eczema, thete's a very amazing cream which is not sold in the shops but sells worldwide by word of mouth alone,it is made in a farm, for more info please see this article (see the part that says 5 Star Tip!):

There's a natural product called oralmat (which contains Rye grass) which has shown to reduce asthma attacks. see link:

I think probably the Allergic Rhinitis is caused by the medicines she's taking,
She might do well to take a really good multi-vitamin.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help but I hope this is useful to you.

Excema and asthma do tend to go hand in hand. But whereas and adult developing them, and a child having these conditions; a child tends to out grow them.

Still fill in the forms, with help if necessary. As nothing ventured is nothing gained.
