Just because you can speak?
Just because we as humans are destroying the world?

Well if you're human, and humans are destroying the world than maybe you should consider animals better than you. Merely by being born into this species, you have become less than an animal because of our actions so now you may go dwell on it. OR, you can realize that humans are humans and animals are animals and nothing will change that no matter how any being treats another. Be grateful that you are a human because yes, because you can speak and write and read and think and have a philosophy you are more worthy than an animal. To be equal to an animal would be to relinquish all the gifts of man, and all the knowledge you have worked hard to attain, if you want to be equal to an animal then so be it, start with the thumbs end with the thoughts. Hope it makes you happy enough to stop whining.

Unless there is a God, we are all worth zero, including animals.

If there is a God, then He has the authority to delegate worth.

That doesn't mean we should approve of destroying our world. But we can't make humans equal in worth to bacteria, for example.

To me, the question is wrong. I am a Hindu and I do not think that i am better than animals in many ways. In many wasy animals are better than humans, and in many other ways humans are better than annimals. coomparison of two different categories shall amount to category mstakes. The idea of anthropocentricism is not indian, it is semitic. so, I do not suffer from the illusion that humans are better than animals.

we're also better than animals because some of us worry about what we're doing to other animals.

animals would just kill other animals and move on (perhaps after making a meal out of their prey or, in some lizard-brain way, revelling in the fact that they've now asserted their primacy over a certain stretch of territory or to the available females)

we think. and if animals think as well, we think more than about breeding, food and survival.

look at the sistine chapel, look at spiderman comics, look at the slinky...that's how we're better.

I have an opposing thumb, I can "Remember" and don't act on instinct, I don't leave my dead behind, I bury them....All of these things seperates me from an Animal, although my "Nomenclature" is listed as "Animal".
