Becoming a joke? It IS a joke and has been for a while. I agree with you 100% and it's easy to get frustrated the more you follow this. This is just a prime example of how The Hall is more of a popularity contest, as well a political game. Oh yeah, and Jann Wenner is still a moron. Not only are the artists you mentioned more deserving but Madonna is NOT rock under any circumstance.

Britney can't get nominated yet, and she definitely won't.

What's weird about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is that while there are some pretty good rock artists included, there are some undeserving ones and even inductees that aren't even rock (Miles Davis and a whole lotta R&B, soul, and blues artists)! Those ones that aren't rock are great, but why include them?

I'm suspecting that influence has something to do with this. Influence and popularity. Then again, the Ramones were never popular. Anyway, Madonna is often regarded as one of the greatest by many, and if that's so, she's in. I guess that's how it works.

Oh, and it's called Dire Straits.

Not sure where it's at now, but best selling female is between Madonna and Mariah Carey.

Madonna however, has re-invented herself many times. She might not be the best singer, but she has broken new ground, and the public has responded. Love her, hate her, you can't argue with sales and a career that spans more than 25 years.

I think the Hall of Fame just kind of picks em'. She deserves it, hands down, she is truely a pioneer.

Let's get Thin Lizzy in the Hall of Fame, how could you forget them?

I agree with you 100% I don't think she should be in the Hall of Fame. She's pop not rock. There are a lot of women who did things for music, not just Madonna. I can't unerstand how she could be inducted into the Hall of Fame. She's a terrible singer and her music isn't even that good. She's famous for the sake of being famous, not her music. When you think of Madonna, you probably think of her kissing Briteny Spears. It's just the stupid acts she does that sells her records, not her music. If it wasn't for MTV, she probably wouldn't be famous.

I don't think she deserves it. She is a mediocre singer whose entire act has always revolved around sex and religion even though her fans like to claim that she keeps re-inventing herself. I will also say that if it hadn't been for MTV, which kept playing her music videos, and her videos themselves, her career wouldn't have lasted nearly as long as it has. She was among the first in a long line of performers who looked good on video but couldn't sing well. For a long time, that seemed to be all that mattered. Good looks meant more than actual talent. How many artists at the time saw their careers fizzle out because they didn't look good on video?

Yeah, as oddball a choice as it may seem, I guess she must be acknowledged. I'm thinking she was the 1st *woman* to go so far & become so successful in marketing, promoting & reinventing herself.

But my gut reaction is that she's better suited for a Pop Hall of Fame if there was one.

If *Britney Spears* EVER gets even NOMinated in the future, I will climb Mt. Kilamanjaro naked & then jump.

Why does rock and roll need a hall of fame other than to boost tourism to Cleveland?

My own rock hall of fame is in my head.

Whether or not she is deserving is a matter of opinion. Although I'm not a big fan of hers, you cannot deny her longevity and her enormous record/CD sales over the years.
I do like her old stuff.
If Brit is still around in 20 years from now, selling tons of CD's then she deserves it too.

I don't like Madonna, but I'll get real, she is the best selling female singer of all-time, so i think she deserves to be inducted just for that, let alone her phenomenal influence on the pop music.
