It's not recommended. When pregnant, we're supposed to sleep on our sides (especially the left side). If you're dealing with a comfort issue, I totally recommend that you get either a body pillow or a maternity pillow. Body pillows are generally cheaper and are very comfy.

Well, I didn't start to show until I was six months and at that time it was way too uncomfortable for me to sleep on my tummy because baby was right there so I slept on my sides. They say that sleeping on the left side is best for baby because it increases oxygen flow to him, but I've slept on both sides throughout this pregnancy and my little bub is doing great. He was supposed to be due yesterday so I hope he comes out soon.

From Dr. Sears!
" Sleep right. Your body will normally let you know what is the most comfortable sleeping position. Standard pregnancy advice is that after the fourth month back sleeping should be avoided, since lying on your back puts the whole weight of your uterus on the major blood vessels that lay to the right of your spine. Since some women find themselves unable to sleep on their left side, the advice to avoid both back and right side lying is distressing for them. There is a theoretical advantage to sleeping on your left side, as it enhances circulation to the placenta. For women with placental problems the advice to sleep on their left side only is of utmost importance. However, most women move around during the course of the night and probably whatever position is comfortable for you is all right. Realistically, by the time you should not be sleeping on your stomach, you will find it is very uncomfortable to sleep on your stomach; and by the time you should not be sleeping on your back, you will find it is very uncomfortable to sleep on your back."

Don't sleep on your tummy, it is best to sleep on your right side for blood flow for the baby.

You can sleep on your tummy til it starts to feel uncomfortable, in my 1st preg. that was about 5 mths, but my 2nd it was about 3mths. Don't worry too much about it, your baby will definately let you know if they are uncomfortable.

i know its not reccomended to sleep face down on your tummy, and chances are that when you get bigger, you wont want to, but just sleep however is most comfortable for you, because it's kind of hard to find that position, well, for me at least it is. so good luck with that!!!

It doesn't matter how you lie when you sleep but this will be uncomfortable for you as the baby grows bigger. They are well protected in the amniotic sac.
