Why bother? All laptops have 2 SODIMM slots. If laptop is a fairly recent one, it should accept at least 2x1Gb.

also try www.offtek.co.uk

You can choose, laptop, then the manufacturer, then all the models of that manufacturer are listed. Find yours and it will tell you the default installed size and how many slots and the maximum you can got to.

If it is less than 12 months old you can probable go to at least 2GB.

If you have 256mb in already then you will be able to add another 1 x 256 (total 512), 1 x 512 (total 756) or 1 x GB (total 1,256).

If you buy a large chip make sure you put that in the 1st chip slot and put the smaller chip in the second slot.

Well you have 3 options that I know of.

1) If your PC is manufactured by a company like HP or Dell you can go to their homepage and look up your particular computer's model number. They should list its specs.
2) Download a program that will give you that information (see below).
3) Open your computer up take your ram chip out and look at the sticker attachted to it.

Programs that will give you that information:

CPU-Z is an easy to use freeware that gathers information on some of the main devices of your system.

Go to the www.kingston.com or www.crucial.com. They are 2 companies that specialize in selling RAM. They can check your computer for you over the internet and tell you what kind of RAM, and how much RAM you can buy for your computer.

After you know what kind/and how much RAM, buy from another place, because Kingston and Crucial are more expensive.
