Seriously, when/how did child support go from making sure a child had adequate food, clothing & shelter to rewarding mothers with insane amounts of money just because they had the fortune to give birth to a child? We now have to pay $2000/month to my husband's ex wife (who he left 14 yrs ago due to her crazed anger & violence; She's been diagnosed as Borderline Personality), even though she is a multi millionaire with way more money than us. I mean it does NOT cost $2,000 a month for ONE kid. We live in a basic boxy house from the 1970's, nothing special, while the mother lives in Los Altos Hills in a $2 Million house and owns 2 others homes. Does CA have the highest child support in the U.S.? My husband makes about $13K/mo gross, but after losing half of it to taxes, 401(k) deductions, our $4100/month mortgage (The Bay area is super expensive but we're stuck here), we don't even break even 2 months out of 3 with having to pay that $2000/mo CS. How did CS get so out of hand high???

P.S. I haven't been able to work the past 6 months due to a brain tumor. I am going back to work soon, but I'm only a substitute teacher so I hardly make anything. I drive a beat up 17 yr old Toyota while the ex wife has multiple new cars, some of which we have to help her fund in child support.

Husband's lawyer says that's the amount that comes out of the dissomaster because he has zero custody. So is whatever the dissomaster says like etched in stone or does the judge have the ability to change the amount??

Well, I think Georgia has you beat. The poor kids of divorce in Georgia are very often a pretty decent source of "tax free" income to the lucky parent that ends up with custody (usually the mother). Until recently, for one kid, theirs was figured at a flat 20% the payers gross income regardless of what the other parent made. Talk about dead beat parents! In this case I see the dead beat as the custodial parent that is making MONEY OFF THEIR KIDS. That's sad. I don't care what side of the street you are on - both people had a part in bringing the kid/kids into the world and both should be equally responsible for supporting them.

Yah that is just ridiculous. You should maybe consult a lawyer about that situation if you haven't already done so.

Not sure what to tell ya then. I would imagine in a case like that the judge could do something since she does not need the money and you on the other hand can hardly afford it. Very unfair.

Dymond that is the most ridiculous thing I have read in a while. A child does not cost 3500 dollars a month to provide for.

That is a crazy amount to pay in child support. And to think my ex complained when he had to pay $20.00 a week and I only make $13,000 a year.
I would seriously think about taking this back to court. Child support should be based on both parents income. Even though it is expensive,it might help to find a lawyer to help you with this.

The Duggars are part of the Quiverful movement which seeks to make their particular brand of Christianity dominate the globe by giving birth to and raising as many children as possible who will continue to spread the same doctrine. That's their reason for all the kids. I don't think it's a good idea to have more kids than one can take care of.

Every state has guidelines to figure out child support. You should be able to contact your department of children and family services to see how they determine what you should pay. If you feel you are paying too much you need to get a lawyer to have you support reduced.

Protection of the children is the only purpose why child support is expensive. It is hard but it is the law.
