depo provera?

i have been on the depo provera shot for 6 years. i have been trying so hard to lose weight and im not having any luck. im not saying this is the reason im not losing weight. but will this birthcontrol cause you to gain weight you cant lose? if i decide to try a different method, will the weight come off that i gained when i first started?

I had the 'depo' shot five times, yes, I gained weight, the weight did not just fall off when I stopped having the injections, it is a bit of a battle, I have to weigh up the side effects of the weight gain to the effects of the 'depo' which is I don't have a period while I am on it. Pity we can't have our cake and eat it too, ah blow it, eat the cake too.

One side effect of Depo Provera is weight gain. Most women I know that were/are on DP have gained weight. They were able to lose the weight after stopping the medication, however, it didn't just fall off, they had to work on it. Having said that, there are a few women I know, myself included, that did not gain while on DP. I have a hard time gaining anyway, so that may have had something to do with it in my case.

I was on depo shot for a year and I gained a large amount of weight. I also had irregular periods from the medication. Coming off the shot seemed to help my weight a little but I was already overweight. It took gastric bypass for me to get my weight off. Not saying that you need that just that was how heavy I was. I had not good results from the depo shot.

Depo IS the reason you are not losing weight.

Have you had a bone density check done? It royally screws with your bone health.

I was on it for four years. I immediately went to Kariva (pill) when I read about all the horror stories about depo provera. I got my periods back after three months and my weight is slowly coming off.
