The iPhone is not that great a phone.

It has a groovy touch screen, but that is about.

The phone uses GSM technology. GSM is an outdated technology and I would have expected that the iPhone would have used at least the new G3 technology. If I was going to buy a new wizbang expensive phone, it would bea G3 phone.

But you limited to one carrier. If you go to another country for an extended stay you can't even buy a cheap local SIM card to use with your phone. How bad is that.

Then many people worked hard to develop extra little programs for the iPhone. Now the new software upgrade blocks them from running. That is right, the iPhone will only run iPhone software. Which means you are highly limited compared with all the other smart phones out there.

The iPhone is selling well, but like the iPod and the Macintosh, eventually all these restrictions will catch up with it and a more generic product which is more adapatable will push the iPhone out of the market. At least with the iPod people could write little applications that could add extra functionality (like the one for scanning a hard drive that you plug an iPod into and finding valuable data, then downloading it).

No, because Apple won't let you do anything with it. I don't want to be told what I can and cannot do with things I buy. It's like buying a CD player and being told I can only play certain movies.

And I certainly won't spend the money to buy something, customize it to what I want only to have it all erased because Apple doesn't want me to have certain applications on it.

It's a shame they have to be so controlling about it. It looked pretty cool too. I was actually thinking of investing the money to buy one...not now.
