I was at the hairdressers today getting my hair done. I'm not a very talkative person but I decided to start a conversation with the girl cutting my hair. Unfortunatley my ice breaker was "So, what do you do for a living?". She just looked at me funny and I went red.

That's a good one! A real ice breaker. Probably closest I can think of is asking the phone number of someone you're one the phone with, who YOU just called.

She might have thought you were joking. It *is* funny but I'd call it more spontaneous than stupid. I've done similar tings more times than I care to recall, which is probably why I *can't* seem to recall any of them @ the moment.

Well, the hair-cutting could be her side job & she probably could have another job that she considers her career. That's not really stupid. The hair-cutting could be her hobby.
