I bought a new motherboard and i want the FSB to be 1066mhz. My motheboard says 1066/800/533/400FSB . Is it capable of 1066mhz. If so how do i set it to run at 1066mhz?

The FSB speed is determined by the processor, that board supports all those FSB speeds, but the processor you put in there is what will determine its speed.

Now as for what tazmaster said, oh where do I start. The speed of the RAM does not affect the speed of the FSB, but the reverse is true. You CANNOT run RAM slower than the FSB, but you can run in faster. That whole second paragraph about dual cores, completely untrue, ignore it totally.

this is determined by the processor and the type and speed of memory you intall. some processors runs at 2.4 for instance but they have only a fsb of 400. also if your processor runs at 1066 fs and you install older type ddr 400mhz meory you will only get 400 fsb.

also keep in mind that dual core chip such as a pentium d 2.8 running at 1066 is kinda misleading. why? well you actually dont see 1066 when the bios screen shows. why? this is because the memory actually runs at 533 mhz however please note you have two count them 2 processors giving you 2.8 ghz cpu power and you have both of them running at 533 thus giving you the 1066mhz not 1066 on both cpus.

now some motherboards do allow you to set the speed of the memory or dram speed. this is done in the bios.
keep in mind setting the wrong dram speed can eaither cause the computer to be unstable or lock up or you may not have video and in some cases it jsut wont work at all.

now i suggest if this is your first time doing this that you ask a pro first how to set your bios accordingly with your cpu and memory as to not screw up your rig. good luck.

Yes, your motherboard is capable of 1066FSB speed, so when you plug in a processor that has a 1066 FSB it'll work! The processor will make the BIOS in the motherboard 'see' it's FSB. It's automatic so you don't have to set it.

it is only possible if your processor supports that FSB check what your processor is first ie using the tools on amd/intel's website. also usually the motherboard is smart enough to set itself to the maximum fsb by the processor. if your processor is capable then place an addendum to your question and we'll gladly help
