what do you think?

Flingebunt, could you not argue that everyone of those events you listed started because of some sort of vanity? Greed resides in vanity, Hitler to an extreme extent could be argued to have vanity (you pratically said it yourself)...
Was it not the negative aspect of vanity that brought about these horrendous events?

Great question! Could be argued that it is. Afterall, isn't that what led Satan to turn against God?

Vanity is simply emptiness. It may be equated with the sin of Pride, which is often held to be the greatest of the seven deadly sins, Sloth, Envy, Anger, PRIDE, Greed, and Gluttony since it is the one which occasioned Satan's fall. It may also be linked to an extent with the Void, the ultimate privatio Boni, a vacuum that sucks life out of everything it comes in contact with. Hitler definitely was consummately vane, but that was only the barest beginning of his evil.

What makes these the deadly sins is that people don't see their reality or the full weight of the evil they cause, neglect and rebellion against all the commandments. Vanity isn't "loving yourself", if anything it's the opposite, empty-headed concern about appearances and things that don't really matter. Hitler's vanity stemmed from his self hate, hate which he aimed at others.

[Try using self respect in place of the misused word vanity. Pride is also a misused word, the thing which we think positive about it actually fits in the category of humility, appropriateness and a positive attitude.]

No sin is worse than the other according to the bible all sins are equal. Although there are the Ten Commandments they say that all sins are equal. But in ways i dont see how stealing a candy bar is as bad as killing someone. But since i see it that way ill say that vanity cannot be the worse there are far worse things in the world other than vanity and being full of yourself. People who hurt children and hurt their families are far worse. People who kill for no reason at all taking loved ones away those are far worse. But according to the movie The Devils Advocate Vanity is the devils favorite sin so i guess if your considering it that way it could be the worse sin since its the devils favorite. So in all actuality its up to you. Either believe the bible that says all sins are equal or someone elses opinion. I Hope this has been of help to you.

I'm not sure why vanity should even be considered a sin. Is it just some people who mistake vanity for arrogance? I find it perfectly fine for people to want to be beautiful. I would think however that there are some things that are more important. Though that does not mean that vanity is evil.

Yeah, so much worse than

Greed (wanting so much that others starve)
Murder
Genocide (It was ok for Hitler to kill the jews & gypsies, but making people worship him like God....so bad )
etc

Vanity is just focusing on yourself and not even in a negative way. Vanity is liking to see yourself in a positive way "Boy look at the photo of me, I am so handsom" or hear good things about yourself "Tell me again why you think I am so handsom"

vanity is not one of the seven deadly sins, unless you incorporate it with pride..maybe. I'm not sure I could even pick a worse one over the other...they are all pretty bad...and would be detrimental to any individual on some level.
