The "free" room offers generally begin after your first trip to LV. Sign up for the slot club card, and use it when you play. The trick is knowing >
#1 - What to play
#2 - How to play
#3 - Where to play
#4 - How to manage your bankroll

For some hotel/casinos simply signing up and putting in a few minutes play will get you on their marketing radar. At others you can play thousands of dollars and they won't even bat an eye. >You want to play at a casino, where they will appreciate you at your level of play<

I could write a book on playing the comp game in LV, fortunately someone has saved me the trouble.
"Comp City" - Max Rubin
"The Frugal Gambler" - Jean Scott

The Fremont Street Experience has a couple $10 free plays, go to the FSE office, at 425 Fremont Street, it's located on the second floor of the parking garage next to Walgreens. Show an out of state ID. Get one set for each of you.

The free LV magazine they put in most hotel rooms "What's On" has a couple of $10 free plays

Silverton almost always has a very nice promotion going for new slot club members.

The Las Vegas Advisor's POV has several free plays and a bunch of match play coupons.

We go to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks or more at a time and have for more than 20 years. This year(6/4 - 7/5) 31 nights all comped(probably won't being doing that anytime again soon lol) Next trip(12/13/07 - 1/1/08) 19 nights , but we are only taking 7 comp nights, we paid $254 for the other 12 nights. We "might" stay longer, I have a hard time saying no to a great deal. :))

i SAW THIS SHOW THE OTHER DAY, iM PLANNING A VEGAS TRIP ALSO, HERE IS THE WEBSITE!

http://travel.discovery.com/ideas/vegas/do-dont/vegas-casino.html

"Aside from free drinks, the casino offers coupon books that entitle visitors to discounts in the hotel shops, restaurants and other amenities. Also, don’t miss out on the slot club membership. Each hotel has their own club with benefits and rules. It's said to be one of Vegas' best bargains. When you arrive at your hotel visit the rewards center. Use your slot club card to accrue points for your comps or complimentary items. Comps can be anything from food, hotel rooms and show tickets. The great thing about the comp system is that visitors don’t have to do anything except play and bet.

Don’t expect to receive big comps if you’re not betting big.
Earning comps is based on your average bet and the length of your play. Want to get the most out of your buck for the time you’re playing? One of the highest for comp earnings is roulette, because you’re giving up more to the casino.

Do use your comps before they expire.
If you don’t use all your comp points while you’re in Vegas, the points will last for 18 months, after which they expire. Each casino operates differently, so know the rules before you leave."

You can get offers for free hotel accommodation, food, show tickets or other things if you sign up for a players club membership at the casinos. They want to lure you back to Vegas so they send you free stuff. Find out more about how to get free stuff in vegas here: http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/free-stuff.html

I hope this helps.
