If something is not going your way, is it a sign from the universe to stop doing whatever you're doing... or is it a challenge to learn to overcome your obstacles? I can never differ these two. There have been times when I gave up, due to obstacles and later regretted. Sometimes I tried hard to get/do something, it ended up being something bad for me? How to tell the different when to surrender and when to continue trying.

you can't be all things to all people.

to be emotionally balanced you might think of your emotions as money. if your careful and budget right, you won't be broke. if you spend too much you'll be broke.

this is only a part of what you were asking. for the other part you could read this. ( there might be something there for you. it is an awesome collection of thoughts.) http://marilee.us/desiderata.html

Very, but very, good question. I do not claim to have the answer, the defenitive one, because I too find myself asking this. I can only say what my experience has been.

The events of life, the important ones, the ones that made for some significant and lasting change have come about, I would not say 'of themselves' in the sense that they kind of 'fell out of the blue', but by my finding myself in the particular place and circumstance. No 'forcing'' of any kind was necessary for that; of course, I was still left to decide how to proceed, but it is not like when you are chasing something new, getting only slammed doors in your face every time. The ice broken, you are left with the problem of how to navigate. Only disappointment, if not hurt, followed persisting where intuition suggested otherwise.

I do not mean now that this should be turned into an excuse for inertia: just sitting doing nothing, blaming the universe for it. If the universe points the way, gives hints - as I have reason to hold that it does - it can only do so if you are open to it. If now it is argued - and here is the danger - that even this same inactivity is 'the will of the universe', you are not so much in a 'vicious circle' as stuck to a point, immobile, immovable.

To surrender means to be free only if the surrender is total. I would do my best to surrender and not keep on trying, but this too is not easy. It will even be more difficult, if anything, if the urge to keep trying is irresistible, which it often is. Here I feel that I must point out all the more that this is just out of my experience and maybe reflects, has something to do with, the stage of life one is at; yourself and others may be at some other where 'continuing to try' may pay off. I do not know.

No, use the message you get from the universe as valuable feedback. This is what great inventors did when they tried for years to find a solution to a problem. They took every failure as a valuable feedback to understand that they had to still adapt their approach UNTIL they actually succeeded.
If you put a seed into the ground and it does not grow, does that mean the universe tells you to stop to putting seeds into the ground or is the universe telling you that you missed something. For example it might be that you did not water this seed enough, or you watered it too much, or the earth is not suitable for the seed or the temperature is not right.
So if something does not work it is just not yet right but if you remember this feedback you will learn for the future and not use the same approach again but try something else.

Sometimes the from us perceived bad experiences are just another lesson which would you had miss this lesson it would had been in the long run more harmful then experiencing something bad in the short run.

Life is a great school.

you know every individual living in this world deserves to enjoy life whether in a positive or negative way. what i mean theres nothing to surrender nor to regret if you do things sincerely though you commit mistakes sometime still stand for it and try to learn from your mistakes. Be optimistic.... We only have to surrender if we are really sure enough that we have already hurt somebody or hurt ourselves.

If the universe wanted to stop you, it wouldn't give you a sign, it just would. Luckily, that rarely happens so I think unless you're killed along the way to doing something, always keep trying.

Happiness requires both effort and resignation as Bertrand Russel put it, it is the conquest of happiness.
You must resign yourself to some tasks in life, and to achieve you will also have to apply effort to others. If it is something you want, then you'll want to apply effort, if it is something you have to do you may as well resign yourself to the task rather than waste energy over being either upset or reluctant.

That is directly related to the goal and the motivation for the goal. There isn't a universal answer to the question.

Some things that we want require participation from others.

It is also (logically) possible that you are simply purifying yourself of previous trouble to be able to move forward.

How are you to know good and bad. You have only the power to act, never to decide how things will go.

continue trying even if the universe is against you. try until it kills you. never give up. you will show them someday.
