I know in real time the sun sets later for the West Coast.
But there is less news being reported later in the day because the people in the Eastern Time Zones go to bed earlier.

No. Actually, the schedule for most people in the eastern time zone runs later than for people in the central and mountain time zones. The news that is on at 10:00pm in the Midwest, is on at 11:00 on both coasts. Normal business hours in the Midwest are 8:00am to 4:00pm, in the east it's more like 9:00am to 5:00pm. Leno and Letterman are on at 11:30pm in the east, and 10:30pm everywhere else (except the west coast). The west coast schedule is the same as the east coast for everything except breaking news because they just rebroadcast earlier programs. As a result, the schedule of a Midwest day starts and ends earlier than that on either coast.

Oh, you're good. I give you kudos. That's something good. Conceptually, everything is now. I'm 2 hours past Calif. time. I know it's midnight here now, in Springfield, Mo. Some folks have gone to bed 2 hours ago, in Calif. The final outcome is still the same, no matter how we play with the clocks. I'll just be in bed, 2 hours later, the same. Let's adjust this. I think you're receptive. Check it out. (I like your train of thought) 7 people book seven rooms in a hotel. They arrive together. They are told by the manager desk clerk, there was a mixup, and only 6 rooms exist. Fear not he says, I'm also a master magician. Seven of you will take 6 rooms, and each of you WILL HAVE your own room. THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE!! No it isn't!! He takes the first 2, and says, please, just stay here for a moment. He takes the 3RD. person, and puts him in the 2ND. room. 4TH, in the third room. 5th, person in the 4th room. 6th person, in the 5th. room. There was only 7 people. He went and took the last 7th person, from the first room, and gave him the sixth room. Each of the seven had their own room. Who then goes to bed earlier??

If every one was in the habit of going to bed at 11:00, then they all go to bed at the same time.

Now that is an original question! Most people actually go to bed the same time as far as I can figure. Congrats on your question!
