What are the best trees to plant for a Mediterranean look that don't have invasive roots?

I have 3 small berms and I would like to plant a tree on each and bushes and flowers underneath. Can you give me some ideas?

Rosemary, lavendar. Junipers. Maybe umbrella pines (Pinus picea, the Italian stone pine).
