My Mother stated she moved the computer now keyboard is not working. I asked and she said it is plugged in. this is a relatively old compaq with a basic keyboard. I am going to visit in two weeks any suggestions what it might be. thanks

If it's a PS/2 connection (round, not USB) then you will need to turn off the computer, unplug/plug it in (to make sure it is securely plugged in) and then turn your computer back on.

She may have the plugs for the mouse and the keyboard switched. They are both PS/2 plugs.

considering its old, maybe shes mistaken and it isnt plugged in? its prolly not the answer your looking for, so its time for a knew state of the art infrared keyboard as a replacement from her?!?!?!

trying changing keyboards, you indicated this is kinda old soo it may be the keyboard...

Mabe you was put in wrong USB Port

I'm guessing it's pre-USB
Try rebooting
