hey i have a dell laptop that came with pc2700u (333mhz) ram and i replaced it with some after market pc2100/2700 (266/333mhz) ram and it says it cant recognize what's installed in ram port. so i take it out, make sure both ends of the contacts are clean, and put it back in. this time, same thing, and it heats up super crazy hot in like two minutes. i have no idea what went wrong. is there a difference between pc2700 standard and pc2700u? ftw?

thanks who ever can help me out here...

PC2700u and PC2100/2700 run on different voltage levels. You may have burnt out your PC2100/2700. replace only with PC2700u.

There is a difference. NEVER combine two different types of ram.
The heat caused can actually melt the connection for the RAM
