Government cannot listen to all the people. Only the suspected terrorists are being tapped and some are monitored for political purposes.

Nope. That would require one government listener for every American talking. Besides, it would bore them to tears if they listened in on most conversations people seem to want to share with me when they're walking through the super market (or any other public place) talking loudly into their cell phones.

They have computer programs that listen for key words and phrases. If you use a key word, the call is saved and disseminated. So if you're talking to your friend about trimming the "bushes" in your yard last week, they automatically save it for the public record. It's advertised as a tool against terrorism, but based on the rise in drug arrests, they seem to be using it for that too.

Yes!!! It's called the Patriot Act. Our government can do pretty much what ever thay want now, in the name of fighting terrorism. Many people who are conspirist minded, believe that 911 was United States way of ushering in this lack of privacy.

Nixon was just as suspicious of everybody, but he did not have our present electronic equipment.

No. But if you are talking to those whom are suspected terrorists they will. If you call your grandma they don't have the time or resources to get involved in these kinds of calls.
